SRA Price and Service Transparency

Godwin Austen Solicitors: Price and Service Transparency

At Godwin Austen Solicitors, we are committed to offering clear, transparent, and competitive pricing alongside a high standard of legal service. We understand the importance of transparency in building trust and ensuring clients are fully informed about potential costs from the outset. Our services comply with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) transparency rules, providing clients with essential information on fees, likely timescales, and the scope of our services.

Our Pricing Approach

We believe that every client deserves a clear understanding of our pricing structure, and we aim to avoid unexpected costs wherever possible. For each legal service we provide, our team will discuss the fee options available, which may include:

Fixed Fees

For specific services, such as immigration law, drafting business contracts and some employment law services, we offer fixed-fee arrangements. This gives clients a precise figure for the work undertaken, allowing for budgeting without concern for added charges.

Hourly Rates

For more complex, ongoing matters that require flexible support, we may charge an hourly rate. This rate will depend on the experience and seniority of the solicitor handling your case, and we will provide an estimate of total fees based on the anticipated time required.

Retainer Agreements

For clients who need continuous legal support, we offer retainer agreements that provide ongoing advice for a pre-agreed fee. Retainer packages are tailored to the specific needs of each client.

No Win, No Fee

For certain types of claims, such as some employment cases, we may offer a conditional fee arrangement, commonly known as "no win, no fee." This arrangement will be clearly discussed, and our terms will be provided in writing.

Additional Costs and Disbursements

Some matters may require additional costs, known as disbursements, which are separate from our legal fees. Disbursements may include charges for:

  • Court fees
  • Expert reports
  • Barrister or specialist fees
  • Land registry fees

We will inform you in advance of any likely disbursements related to your case and secure your approval before incurring these costs on your behalf. All disbursements will be listed and clearly itemised in your invoices. These disbursements are payable by the clients and are not included in our fees.

Our Service Commitment

We are dedicated to delivering a high standard of service, offering clients both legal expertise and personal support throughout their matter. Here’s what you can expect:

Initial Consultation

In an initial consultation, we’ll review your situation and determine how we can assist. During this meeting, we’ll provide an outline of likely fees, timescales, and any additional information relevant to your case.

Scope of Work

For each engagement, we will outline the scope of work, defining what is included and any potential limitations or factors that may affect the final cost.

Regular Updates

Throughout the course of your matter, we provide regular updates on progress, any changes to estimated costs, and anticipated completion timescales.

Clear Invoicing

Our invoices are transparent and easy to understand, detailing all charges, including any disbursements, to ensure complete clarity.

Estimated Timescales

While each case is unique, we strive to provide accurate timescales for completion based on our experience. Timescales may vary depending on the complexity of the matter, responsiveness of other parties, and court processing times. We will keep you informed of any developments that may impact timelines, ensuring you are always aware of the progress and likely completion date of your matter.

Complaints Handling

We are committed to client satisfaction and take all feedback seriously. If you have any concerns about our fees or service, we encourage you to contact us promptly. We have a formal complaints procedure in place and will work to resolve your concerns fairly and efficiently.
